Thomas Day, MBA, CLU, CEA
Care Funding Specialist

I am a long term care specialist and Certified Elder Care Advisor (CEA).  As a specialist, I consult with and advise employers, insurance agents and financial planners about long term care issues.  As a CEA, I help individuals plan for care needs by providing direction for funding the cost of preferred care settings and by making sure a written long term care plan is in place.

In addition to the planning, I am an expert on long term care insurance.  I have written numerous articles and a book on the subject. I also teach long term care continuing education credits for insurance agents, CPA's, attorneys and administrators.  I have also been asked numerous times by employers to help in the selection of group long term care insurance.

I come to you with 20 years of experience in retirement planning and financial services.  I have a BA degree in Physics and an MBA from the University of Utah.  I also have a CLU designation from the American College and a Certified Eldercare Advisor (CEA) designation.

So often I see people who are trying to help a loved one, perhaps a parent, and do not know where to turn for the help they need.  Along with the other members of the Utah Care Planning Team, I can help you sort out your options, and put a plan in place that will work for you.

Comments From People I Serve

"My wife and I wish to thank you for the INVALUABLE information available on your website. It's astounding & almost unbelievable that someone would spend so much time and effort on this subject. We have learned so much from it."  Leslie & Betty Smith

"I just wanted to thank you for your internet site. I entered it in my search for more information on Assisted Living. I printed several copies of "About Assisted Living" to share with my siblings and, most importantly, my Mother. My Father died three years ago and without him my Mother should not be living in their big home alone. She has short term memory loss probably early Dementia of the Alzheimer's type. She has resisted moving into any type of retirement community let alone anything remotely associated with "Assisted Living". Your article will help us educate her to the percentages of residents who are there for very minor assistance. She has confused nursing home with assisted living. I feel certain that it will help us help her make this life changing decision. She does have some Long Term Care Insurance, although after reading your article on Long Term Care, I see that it could have been a better policy.

I have never emailed anyone after reading anything on internet sites, but I just felt compelled to tell you what a relief and emotional "lift" I felt after exploring every part of your site.

Again, thanks so much and my thoughts and prayers are with you as your condition improves. You are a gift from God!"

Warm regards,

Janine Hammel

"Dear Tom:

I really like your web site. Most of all I am impressed at how you are
helping others find solutions in the over whelming task of being a care
giver.

In the last six years I have lost my sister, my step dad and my mom. I was
able to be with them when they died. I enjoyed what I did for my parents and
sister and would not change at thing.
I was a care giver for my parents for 10 years.

I have been in the insurance industry for years. I am currently working at
PEHP, Public Employees Health Program. We will be launching a long term
program that will be available to employees of the State of Utah.

I am very passionate about working with the elderly regarding their
benefits. I was looking at volunteering at a hospital to be a patient
advocate, but the Privacy Protection Act has limited that avenue.

I was very surprised to learn you live in Bountiful. I live in Farmington.
Your story on the web page sounds so familiar. I hope I can meet you, at
least through e-mail and share ideas.

Thanks for helping so many people."
